Meet Buddy – A Dog with a Joyful Soul and a Heart Full of Love!
Buddy is a sweet, gentle, affectionate husky, and he’s writing the rulebook on what it means to live life in the moment.
Buddy has two health conditions, but you’d never know it from his fun-loving energy and cheerful personality:
Kidney Disease (Stage 1) – While this condition can progress over time, Buddy is receiving no special treatment right now. More details on Buddy’s prognosis will be shared with applicants.
Megaesophagus – This just means that Buddy’s esophagus is enlarged and doesn’t propel food to his tummy as well as it should. It is well-managed with a soft diet and/or scatter feeding, and using a harness for walks instead of a collar.
Also, Buddy takes Glandex (a special fiber blend) to keep his anal glands healthy and happy.
Buddy is a loving, happy husky who lives every day with enthusiasm and joy. While his stage one kidney disease means that he may have a shorter lifespan than other dogs, he doesn’t let that get him down. His focus is on living in the moment and giving all his love to his humans.
Buddy is one-of-a-kind and brings pure joy to everyone he meets. True to his name, he’s more than a pet – he’s truly your Buddy, your shadow, and a source of unconditional love and laughter. He lives his life full of enthusiasm, curiosity, and charm.
Buddy will greet you everyday with an enthusiastic tail wag, a happy howl, and infectious excitement that makes you feel like the most important person in his world. He doesn’t usually jump up, but if you bend down for him, he will happily give you a good morning kiss.
Buddy has a perfect balance of energy. Mornings are for slow starts, snuggles, and snoozes. Late afternoon is when his inner goofball wakes up. He loves to run around with his foster sister, wrestling, and showing off his zoomies. Before long, it’s time for another nap in the yard. Buddy loves a good routine and knows when it’s time for his walk. And when he’s ready, he’s ready! Like any retired sled dog, he’s strong on leash and can be a puller, but he’s working on this with hand feeding and positive reinforcement. Note: Buddy must be walked with a harness, not a collar, due to his megaesophagus.
Buddy is still working on his crate training. He will go in without too many complaints, but he’d rather live life on the outside. He is not destructive when left alone in the house, but he has been known to steal (but not destroy) leather shoes and purses, so you’d best put those away. Usually, he’ll just find a spot to sun himself and take a nice, long nap.
Buddy would thrive in a home with a person or family who enjoys an affectionate, medium-energy dog, and wants to include him in their daily activities. And above all else, Buddy is looking for someone who understands that a life well-lived is not about the number of days you have left, but rather how you spend your time and who you spend it with. And Buddy…he REALLY knows how to live.
