Meet Arlo! An absolute goofball, Arlo’s unique personality will keep his forever family laughing. He’s also an absolute love bug and will happily present his butt for scratches to most people he meets. Like a lot of friendly big dogs, Arlo is convinced that he is the perfect size to be a lap dog, regardless of the size of the lap.

As Arlo is deaf, a patient and understanding family is a must. He appreciates a gentle, predictable approach when being woken so he feels safe and comfortable. Arlo is learning hand signals and now knows sit, paw, and lie down.

Arlo is enthusiastic about making dog friends and is learning to wait for his person’s permission before saying hello. His excitement can sometimes come out as barking or lunging, especially while he’s getting to know a new handler, but lessens the more he feels comfortable with his person. As he builds a trusting relationship with his forever adopter, we anticipate he will be less excitable over time. Arlo can also be briefly startled by unexpected approaches as he still adjusts to his hearing loss. His foster has established routines that help him feel secure and aware of his surroundings, and his future family can build on those routines to help his confidence grow.

Day-to-day, Arlo is also quite playful and loves a good game of fetch. He also likes to dig through his toy bin, taking each toy out for a play sample.
Arlo would make a great family dog, and loves being wherever his people are, whether that is running around in the backyard, on a hike, or on the couch for a snooze.
