Hi, I’m Cookie! I’m a sweet and gentle girl who is always happy to see my people. Whether you’ve just come home or I’ve finished some nap time in my crate, I’ll greet you with a big stretch and happily soak up all the pets and scritches before heading off to more important business, like hunting for socks!
I’m pretty quiet and relaxed inside the house, and you’ll often find me lying by the glass door, busy monitoring the squirrel activity in the backyard for you. If I spot one, I’ll be sure to let you know that that there are some very suspicious squirrel shenanigans happening outside. Once I’m out there, I love racing around the yard and weaving through the hostas on a serious squirrel-detection mission. I really enjoy backyard adventures!
I’m very shy around new people and nervous of fast movements, but I’m learning to be braver with the help of my foster. I might bark and retreat at first, but once I realize new people aren’t actually scary, I can settle down and start to relax. Once I get to know someone and learn that they can be trusted, I’m comfortable with them.
I’m doing really well with some basic training, and I can now respond to my name and other simple commands. I’m not always interested in taking treats by hand, but if you’re willing to up the ante, a little shredded cheese just might convince me that training is worth my precious time.😂
I’m good on walks and have come such a long way with my leash training. I wear a snug harness, because I can get a little zoomie, and I occasionally pull a bit on my first walk of the day. I’m simply looking for a suitable place for my morning toilette. My foster has been working with me on pausing when squirrels appear, because apparently I’m supposed to admire them from afar versus chase them. Confusing.
I’m looking for a quiet home where I can continue building my confidence. I would do best with a patient person or family who understands that trust takes time. Very small children would probably be too overwhelming for me.
I have some dental issues that will be addressed by the rescue. For now, I eat my dry food soaked in water, which makes things much easier for me.
