Hi there! I am Blitzen, and I am a giant-sized sweetheart with a heart even bigger than my head! When you walk through the door, I will be the first one there to welcome you with a wagging tail and a curious nose, ready to show you how much I missed you. I am a big boy who absolutely lives for the great outdoors, especially if there are plenty of interesting smells to sniff. I love my walks, but I prefer them on the shorter side so we can get back to my favourite hobby: being right by your side. I can be reactive to other dogs while walking on leash. Walking tools, boundaries and some guidance have helped me come a long way. It’s important that my forever family continue the progress I’ve made.

My foster family says that if we are going with a reindeer theme, I definitely should have been named Prancer! You should see the way I walk, play, and run when the zoomies hit me. I am a total social butterfly and adore humans of all sizes, from the littlest kids to the tallest adults. My absolute favourite thing is leaning my whole weight against you for rubs and scratches. I have a very giant head, and it makes the perfect pillow. If you snuggle up close, I almost purr like a big kitten to show you I am happy.
I am mostly a very chill guy, though I am smart enough to be a little stubborn when I want to be! I am a quick learner, which is good because I am still working on a few of my bigger-boy habits. Sometimes I get a little too curious about what is left in the garbage or hover nearby while you are eating dinner, but I am very good at laying down when I am told. I am not crate trained but I do well outside of a crate – no accidents and I’m not destructive. If I have a dog sibling, I should be separated from them when left alone as I can be stubborn and bossy. I have been known to resource guard with my canine foster sibling over food and toys; slow introductions and firm boundaries will help me to continue my progress.
I am actually a very good boy in my own space, though I do live for those moments where I get to run off-leash and let my inner prancer out!
My dream home is a place where I can truly be the star of the show. Because I am still learning how to stay calm around other furry friends and can be reactive on leash, I am looking for a family who is comfortable using tools and continuing my training. I would love a home with some property where I can roam, and I would thrive best as an only dog or with a family that has the patience for very slow introductions. If you are looking for a big, smart, snuggly boy who just wants to be loved, I am ready to lean into your life forever!
