Meet Jag!
Described by his fosters as “the happiest, ray of sunshine in a dog body you will ever meet”, Jag does the cutest tippy-tap toes whenever food is involved (especially his meals). He also loves to ‘overdo’ his tricks … want him to ‘lie down’? He will do it, but SLAM himself into the floor with excitement while trying to do it! This boy has enthusiasm for EVERYTHING life has to offer!
Jag is working really hard on his separation (better described as confinement anxiety), but he is still in his early stages of his medication and training so his adopter will need to be willing to work on this. He also needs an Airline crate, as he is a master of opening doors, and may get himself free of a normal crate. Jag does much better when left free in the house except for the fact that he can’t be left out of crate when leaving the home for his own safety, as he is the hungriest little hippo and will counter surf if given the chance. We have seen this improve as he has decompressed, but it would still be safest for him to be crated when left alone.
Jag behaves well on leash, and currently uses a harness during walks. He is working on his reaction to people, dogs, or little critters he sees on walks. He doesn’t seem aggressive, but rather, he just wants to meet everyone! Young kids, however, do make him anxious. He does well if his person is well-engaged, talking to him while passing these distractions. He can sometimes pull during these interactions still (although he is getting much better), so he does need someone who can handle his strength during those times. He also likes to sing the strangest, cutest ‘song of his people’ if he’s REALLY excited – think of it like a dinosaur that lost its voice (there’s really no words to describe it, but it’s hard not to laugh when it happens!).
