Hi, I’m Patches! ❤️
I’m a very handsome little guy with a big personality, a clever brain and a set of puppy-dog eyes that could probably get me out of just about anything. My foster says I’m very sweet and loving, and I get SO excited when my people come back that I can barely contain myself!
I have what you might call stop-and-go energy. When I’m awake and out of my crate, I’m ready to play, run around the yard and investigate absolutely everything. Once I’ve had my fill of fun, though, I’m happy to settle down in my crate for a nap. All that growing takes a lot of energy, you know!
I’m a pretty smart little cookie, too. I already know how to sit and shake a paw, I can figure out treat puzzles, and I love playing fetch. Sometimes I even bring the toy back! When I chase or pounce on a toy, I have the silliest little pounce that is sure to make you laugh. I’m also VERY food motivated. If treats are involved, you have my full attention, and I’m usually willing to work hard to get them.
Of course, I’m still a puppy, and I’m learning how to use all that intelligence for good. When I get excited, I can nip at hands, feet, ankles and pants, especially when we’re outside playing. I also explore the world with my mouth, which means I may try to pick up things I really shouldn’t. Shoes are a particular favourite of mine, and if one is within reach, I’ll be tempted to carry it off like my own personal treasure.

I’m looking for a family who understands that these are puppy behaviours that need consistent training, redirection and patience. I’m learning to listen to commands and manage my excitement, and I’ll need my people to help me practise as I grow. I’m clever and eager when there’s something worthwhile to work for, so positive training and plenty of mental stimulation will be important for me.
My crate training is going well! I’m comfortable going into my crate during the day for naps or when I need help settling down, and I sleep in it overnight with several breaks to go outside for potty time. I may occasionally whine for less than five minutes, but I usually signal when I need to go outside. I’ve had a couple of accidents in the house recently, so my new family will need to keep working on my potty training as I grow.

I’m also learning about the leash. Since I haven’t been vaccinated yet, my outdoor time is currently limited to a large, fenced backyard. I’m getting used to wearing a leash on my collar in the yard, but I do pull and can get frustrated when I’m not allowed to go where I want. I haven’t tried a harness yet, so leash skills will be something my new family and I will continue learning together. Until I’m fully vaccinated and my vet gives the okay, I’ll need to keep exploring in safe areas.
I’m hoping to find people who have the time, energy and interest to help me become the best dog I can be. I need playtime, training, mental challenges and people who are ready to match my enthusiasm. I’m affectionate, but I’m not really a lap dog. I’m more of a busy little guy who enjoys playing alongside you and then taking a break when I’m ready. If you’re hoping for a puppy who will cuddle for hours at a time, I may not be your match just yet!
So, what do you say? Are you ready for a clever, playful, food-loving little adventurer who will keep you on your toes, make you laugh with his silly pounces and occasionally attempt to steal your shoes? I promise to bring plenty of fun to your life. Just remember: those puppy-dog eyes are very powerful, and I fully intend to use them! ❤️🐾
