Meet Pine! This sweet, sensitive soul is now looking for his forever home. Originally adopted from us as a small puppy, Pine is back to look for a better fit.

Pine is an eager-to-please, very smart dog. He bonds quickly with his humans and looks to them for guidance and reassurance. Professionally trained in his previous home, Pine knows several commands such as place, paw, down, heel, and sit. He does know ‘drop it’, which is crucial since he is an expert paper collector on walks.

He is also very well crate trained and must continue to be crated in his forever home. The crate is his safe space and allows this young pup the opportunity to properly nap, which is crucial to his still growing brain. He can be crated for a full work day.

Pine is also a great candidate for agility, quickly learning jumps when briefly tested. It’s important to note that any further training should be positive based. Pine is too smart, sensitive, and reliant on his humans for negative based training.

Although he is a very smart and young dog, he has a medium amount of energy, provided that he gets the proper mental exercise. He loves to play, with a Jolly egg (herding breed toy) being one of his favourite toys. He also loves to chew and solid toys or bones should be provided. He also loves a good snuggle and makes an excellent little spoon. When Pine has had enough play time, he will ask to be crated for a nap.

True to his herding breed, Pine is overstimulated by young children and cats so is looking for a home without either of these.

Due to multiple negative experiences at a dog park, Pine is now very afraid of dogs and is dog reactive. With the proper training and time to heal, it is possible that Pine could get over this fear. A trainer recommendation can be provided if this is of interest. Otherwise, Pine will most likely need to live an other dog-free life. Regardless of whether Pine’s fear subsides, he is not a candidate for dog parks.

As he is intelligent and trusting of his humans, Pine’s reactivity can be relatively easily managed with high value treats and human engagement. Trips to the vet, where there may be other dogs present, should also be managed accordingly.

Pine has the ability to be a soul dog – those often once-in-a-lifetime dogs. If you’re looking to build a solid, mutually respectful relationship with a dog who will be your all and who will consider you his all, Pine is the dog for you.
