Storm is, technically, a cloud. A very soft, very fluffy cloud… with strong personal boundaries. This quirky little Shiba came to us pre-installed with a “no unsolicited touching” policy, which—full transparency—he enforced in the past. He wasn’t being dramatic; he was just very clear about his terms and conditions.
Since then, his foster has been patiently helping Storm learn that gentle touch isn’t so scary, and he’s making real progress. The more he trusts someone, the more willing he is to accept affection—and while he may never be the kind of dog who demands endless cuddles, he’s learning that pets from his favourite people can actually be pretty nice. Currently, they’re especially acceptable if he’s simultaneously watching Canada Geese, which we can only assume he finds deeply enriching.
Here’s the thing about Storm: once you respect the rules of the game, he’s an absolute delight. He’s funny, independent, and incredibly easy to live with. He’s happiest just hanging out near his people, happily existing in the same space without needing to be the centre of attention. He loves to play, enjoys a solid nap, and takes his sunbathing responsibilities very seriously—preferably in a warm window.
Storm is also remarkably chill. He’s quiet, content, and perfectly happy spending his day lounging, watching the world go by, or supervising neighbourhood bird activity. His calm nature makes him an ideal apartment or condo companion for someone looking for a low-key dog rather than a high-energy agent of chaos.
He’s low maintenance, low drama, and would thrive with someone who appreciates that trust is earned, not rushed. Think of him less like a cuddly teddy bear and more like a charming, slightly aloof roommate who eventually decides you’re one of his favourite people—and that’s a pretty special promotion.
