Hi, I’m Théo! When you come home, I’ll greet you with a soft wag, a gentle hello, and my big curious eyes. I’m not a jumper, I’m more of a calm, easygoing gentleman who loves being close to my humans. Inside the house I’m a low-energy nap king. I adore sleeping in sunbeams, relaxing on the balcony, and drifting off to gentle jazz or calming dog music. But once I’m outside, I surprise everyone: I love to run! I might be nine, but I still have plenty of joy and silliness in me.

I’ve been told I have lots of quirks that make me pretty special. Even though I’m a big guy, my favourite toys are tiny squeaky ones, especially my little dumpling toys. When you squeak them, my ears perk straight up, my tail starts going, and I get so excited I clack my teeth together before zooming off to chase them. Sometimes I bring them right back, sometimes I stash them somewhere safe, and sometimes I just sit and give them a loving lick.

I’m a professional “air-sniffer,” too. If someone’s cooking or there’s a new scent drifting by, I lift my head proudly and take big dramatic sniffs. I also love exploring: I boop doors, furniture, windows, and people just to investigate. And when I sleep, my legs often run because I dream about adventures. I’m also incredibly devoted to my person. I like to check in often on walks, looking back to make sure you’re okay. While I do like people, I also like my space being respected and my adopter should advocate for it. I’m not a huge fan of strangers touching me and should be allowed to go at my own pace.
A couple things about me: I’m learning that the crate is my safe space. I now sleep in one every night and am very cozy in there. Sometimes, I worry that you might take my snacks away, so I prefer to eat my meals and snacks in my crate where I know my snacks are safe. I’m working on some behaviours: I used to think my foster’s beach grass was a snack buffet, but I’m learning to leave it alone. I’ve also been practicing how to handle my feelings around certain dogs. I’m generally good, but I can get uncomfortable with pushy or playful dogs who don’t respect my space. I may growl or warn if another dog crosses my boundaries, especially if I’m tired. I’m getting better though, and I respond very well when guided or redirected.
On leash, I’ve improved a lot. I used to pull a ton, but now I’m much more manageable. I still get excited because I love to sniff and greet people, but with my harness I do well, even though I make dramatic “ugh” faces every time you try to put it on. Outside stairs are fine for me, but indoor staircases make me nervous, so a home without them would be perfect.
If you ask me what my dream home looks like, I’d say somewhere peaceful, outside the city. Loud sirens, bikes, and traffic stress me out. I’d love a yard to explore, nature trails to sniff, and a quiet home where I can relax. I’d prefer no young children and no other dogs or possibly one very calm dog with slow introductions. I have never lived with a cat before, but possibly if the cat is very dog savvy and doesn’t encourage a game of chase, I could coexist with one. I can be a bit shy at first and prefer if you let me take my time to get to know and trust you before we get all cuddly. Once I warm up to you, it’s well worth the wait! I bond deeply with my person and would love a family who brings me on adventures. I adore car rides and always want to come along.
I’m a gentle, goofy, incredibly loving boy with a huge heart and so much sweetness to offer. If you’re looking for a loyal best friend who will adore you endlessly, I’d be so happy to be your partner in life, squeaky dumplings included.
