Medical:
– Suspected chicken allergy. I’m on a chicken-free diet just in case and I take over the counter allergy meds and antacid daily to help with symptoms.
– I still need to be neutered. The Rescue will cover the cost at one of their clinics, but my new family will need to bring me there and manage my post-op care!
Adoption fee: $750
Hi, I’m Winni! I may not come bouncing to the door when you get home, but trust me, I’m glad you’re here. Sometimes I stay seated when you walk in, sometimes I’ll wander over to greet you. Either way, I’m calm, polite, and never overwhelming.
Inside, I’m a relaxed companion. I love belly rubs, neck scratches, and squeaky toys, especially if they bounce! I’ve never chewed anything I wasn’t supposed to (your shoes are safe), but I have destroyed a couple of my own toys, so tougher ones are best. I live in an apartment right now and I’m happy, no barking when left alone, no accidents indoors.
I’ve recently been allowed on the couch, but I’m super respectful. If you say “off,” I’ll go back to my spot on the floor. I really just want to be near you.
I love being outside. I’ve visited private, fenced, off-leash parks where I got to explore, run, and chase doggy tennis balls, my dream! Walking in the city is a different story though. I get excited by doors (I tend to jump up and paw at them), and I can pull hard when I see something interesting, especially small animals like squirrels or birds. I walk best when attached to my human’s waist with a harness, but even then, I like to lead. Leash training is definitely something I’ll need to continue.
I’m good with most dogs I meet: curious, calm, and comfortable. But a couple (mostly the ladies!) have triggered me to lunge and pull while on walks to go say hi, so I’d benefit from slow intros and a handler who can help me keep building those good dog skills.
As for the crate… we’re working on it. I was anxious in a previous home, but my current foster has been gently helping me feel safe with the door closed. I’ve done well for up to 2.5 hours so far—lying down and even dozing off inside. I’m not fully there yet, but with consistency, I’ll get better.
Food? I love it. A little too much. I watch closely when food is being made, and I’ve tried to sneak a bite once or twice. That said, I usually wait for permission and am learning good manners with mealtime boundaries.
I haven’t been tested with cats or kids. I’ve passed by children calmly while walking, but I haven’t interacted directly with them yet.
I think I’d thrive in a home with at least two people, I’m a social guy who enjoys company. I’m well adjusted to living in apartment. That said, I’d still love regular access to outdoor space, or even better, a yard!
If you’re looking for a loyal, mellow guy who comes to life outdoors and just wants to be part of your day-to-day life, we might be a perfect match. So… do you have room on your couch and in your heart for a chill, cuddly, slightly squeaky-toy-obsessed guy like me? I’ll be waiting.
